Delaware Valley College Signs with New Dining Services Provider

Delaware Valley College is pleased to announce its new partnership with Parkhurst Dining Services.

In addition to providing student meals, Parkhurst has agreed to finance a $2.5 million renovation of the Levin Dining Hall, including air conditioning, and the Pub at the Student Center.

The company began serving meals and snacks July 6 in the Pub. It will be operating the Levin Dining Hall when students return in the fall. Parkhurst focuses on sustainable practices and will deliver improved meals made from fresh, locally grown ingredients, some of which will be produced by the college.

“Parkhurst provides the most versatility and the best food for the best price for our students,” said Purchasing Director William Lyle.

Students no longer have to worry about following a strict meal schedule. Parkhurst allows students access to unlimited dining from 7:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Service is continuous during that time.

Art Glass, Vice President of Finance and Administration, led the effort to sign with the new company.

"We are looking forward to working with Parkhurst as we move toward our goal of a more sustainable campus,” said Glass. “We are excited about the innovative concepts Parkhurst is bringing to Del Val, utilizing food raised here on campus as well as from other local farms.”

For starters, the campus farms will provide romaine and red leaf lettuce, tomatoes, apples, peaches, cabbage and cauliflower. Frank Hummel, the new executive chef, said more college-grown food will be used as the partnership continues.

Next summer Parkhurst will finance the renovation of the dining hall and Pub. Student focus groups will provide input on the design of the new facilities.
