Interview Tips for College Grads

If you're a senior at Delaware Valley University, by now you probably have begun searching so you can land a job after graduation. The thought of interviewing for your first job out of college may seem intimidating, but the best way to shake those nerves is to be prepared.
Keep reading for some interview tips for college grads that will come in handy as you embark into the workforce.
Do your homework. Possibly the worst thing you can do in an interview is show up without any knowledge of the company you hope to work for. Do your homework beforehand and research the company as much as you can. Find out what they do, what their goals are and who their clients are if they have any. With the many social media outlets available today, it's likely that the company where you're interviewing has several pages for you to find out all you need.
Ask questions. While you're researching the company, chances are you'll think of a few questions about them that their online presence doesn't answer. Write them down and be sure to bring them up during the interview.
It's also a good idea to ask questions relevant to the position you're interviewing for, as well as day-to-day responsibilities and company culture. This shows the interviewer that you're interested in the position.
Present a solid résumé. As a college graduate, it's expected that you won't have a lot of jobs on your résumé, but that doesn't mean it shouldn't be flawless. Make sure to list any volunteer work or campus jobs that you've had over the years. Employers want to know that you're responsible enough to hold a position and that you have some sort of work experience.

Look the part. What you wear to your interview is important. Looking like a professional lets the interviewer know that you take pride in your appearance and are responsible enough to put yourself together. Often, your appearance can reflect the company that you work for, so employers want to know that they can count on their employees to always dress in a professional manner.
First impressions count a lot, so don't forget to sell yourself with a firm handshake, a friendly smile and good eye contact.
Show your desire to learn. Be enthusiastic about the position. Even if you don't have some of the skills the employer is looking for, they may find your enthusiasm and willingness to learn a much better fit for the position.
